Judges and Stewards

If you have registered, log in and then choose Edit Account from the My Account menu indicated by the icon on the top menu.

Other Volunteer Info

The competition is registered with the BJCP, so stewarding and judging points will be available to those taking part. Not all registrants may be called upon depending on the number of entries. Participation and allocation to flights will be confirmed once entries have closed. Judges will not be allocated to styles in which they have entries, so it is not necessary to exclude those styles in preferences. Please update your account profile if your availability changes and indicate morning/afternoon if you are not available for the whole day in 'Notes to Organiser'.

Lunch will be provided for all confirmed judges and stewards. This will be served in the downstairs bar away from the judging room. No food, coffee, tea etc. should be consumed in the judging room, fresh drinking water and water biscuits will be available. Please advise any dietary requirements when registering in 'Notes to Organiser'.

Due to the logistics of the venue, judges will have the entries brought to their table in the original container. This will allow judges to inspect the container, pour their own samples and capture any initial aroma that may otherwise be lost.  Whilst the container will be anonymised, in the unlikely event a judge believes they are able to identify the entrant from the container, another judge can be called upon to score that beer. Odour free plant-based disposable, recyclable 200ml BioCups will be used for sampling purposes.

We will be using the 'Structured Scoresheets' that will help expedite the judging process, however judges are encouraged to use the feedback section more fully for additional advice, particularly for problematic beers. There is a helpful YouTube video available about completing this type of scoresheet.

Stewards - please aim to arrive around 8:30 to allow for a briefing on the logistics of the venue and safety procedures.

Judges - please arrive in good time for a prompt 9:00 start and bring your own style guides for the beer cateogries to which you have been allocated. Please also bring mechanical pencils, erasers and bottle openers (limited spares will be available if forgotten.) Printed score sheets will be available.
